Automotive Forged Piston Advantage
|
|
Wiseco Piston is the leading manufacturer of pistons for Late Model EFI pistons. Features such as Skirt coatings, Offset wristpins, Nitride-Napier Ring packs, and forging designs designed to be run at minimal clearance are key to producing a piston that can handle the power, yet run on the street for many miles with minimal noise and wear.
In addition, in-house dyno testing gives Wiseco the ability to develop state-of-the-art technology such as new shapes, coatings, and components, and lead the industry through rigorous R&D. Linking all segments of Wiseco’s organization through design, testing, manufacturing, and distribution allows us to fulfill market needs with minimum lead-times.
Extreme racing conditions demand the strength and toughness that only forged pistons can offer. Compared to cast pistons, forgings are tougher and more durable, and will stand up to the abuse that high performance motorsport applications require. Most castings are brittle, have no grain structure and tend to fail catastrophically when the material yield strength is exceeded. Forgings have condensed grain that is aligned to the features of the part, which produces higher mechanical properties, and resistance to impact and fatigue. Each forging is designed to optimize the strength-to-weight ratio, and maximize performance.

The Hemi pistons are designed with forgings specifically designed around the valve locations and bore sizes of the 5.7 and 6.1 Hemi engines.
This makes the piston with a thick but constant crown thickness for the best strength to weight ratio. They also require no internal milling to clear reluctor rings etc., which reduces the strength of other manufacturer's offerings. The skirt coatings are permanent and reduce noise, wear and friction. Full floating wristpins offer better reliability and reduced friction. The GFX 1.2 1.2 3mm Nitrided steel top ring and Napier style 2nd are the absolute best at sealing combustion and reducing oil consumption with low friction. Valve pocket diameters are build to accommodate large solid roller cams and extra large valve diameters.
